Katsuoji Temple, founded in the early 8th century, was among the main 33 pilgrimage temples dedicated to the goddess Kannon. Throughout its thousand-year history, it has been believed that the temple’s deity brings good luck and victory in difficult situations. To pray for victory, one needs to purchase a “daruma” doll from the temple. After the wish is fulfilled, the doll must be brought back to the temple and left anywhere on the grounds. As a result, you can see many daruma dolls of various sizes placed in different spots around the temple.
